This phone was released in 2003 and like other DCT4 era 3xxx series phone it was targeted for youngsters. Phone had for example translucent shell that glows in dark. Phone got 4096 color passive matrix display and support for polyphonic midi ringtones. Phone also got Java J2ME support, which allows new J2ME games and applications to be installed on phone. Phone got 484kb shared memory for Calendar, Contacts, MMS, Gallery and J2ME-programs

Nokia Fun camera from front and back

Along with Nokia 3100 there were two interesting enhancements released: First is Nokia Fun Camera which is small digital VGA camera with 1mb built in memory. Camera also got flash.

Camera connected to Nokia 3100

File transfer from camera is performed by connected it to compatible phone using Nokia Pop-Port connector. After this camera will transfer all pictures to phone or pictures until phone memory is full.

Nokia Radio Headset

Second enhancement is Nokia Radio Headset. It is combined Hand-Free device and FM radio. Device is powered by phone via Pop-Port.

My opinion about the phone

Nokia 3100 is many ways very fine basic phone on it price point with few nice features like glow in dark shell, calendar and J2ME support. Device is small and fits into pocket, though it is perhaps little too small for author who got butter fingers. Battery lasts around week in my use, lot of battery power is used by all calls I make.

From phone enhancements Nokia Fun Camera is fun toy, but in practical use it is pretty useless because of it 1mb memory and inability to delete or transfer invaludal pictures, transfer will halt when phone runs out of storage space and transfer need to restarted. Also you can only transfer pictures into Pop-Port Equipped S40 phone as transfer will fail with S60 or S80 phone even if model had right connector. Device is short living gimmick from cameraphone boom era.

Nokia Radio Headset in the other hand is very good in my opinion, adding FM recieve would have increased phone price so selling it seperately for those who wanted it later without buy new phone was pretty smart move. Radio volume output is sufficent and clarity excellent. Only downsides I give for uncomformtable earbuds and Pop-Port that keeps popping off. Pop-Port has recieved nickname from me, PopOff-Port. I prefer seperate standard USB and headphone connectors,
