Reflecting past year before 2025

Nokiamies

You are probably wondering why this page remained without update for over a year and where content i promised has been. Well this year did not go exactly as I planned and I had no motivation to update this site. This however is going to change next year and I shall add lot more new content on site (at the end of next year i will say this same again)

What was left in my hand from this year? Well too many nokia phones :). But to be serious despite lot going off course, year was ok and after long time I had change to think about what is direction in life I want head for and what do I want from my life. My previous service provider Puhtek closed it's business so I migrated my website to another host.

Also I decided to quit the protoweb project. There are many reasons for this, one of biggest ones is that work tempo and methods felt too much like I would be working for someone. Also I was not primarily restore sites that were historically important to me since they were finnish and instead should have focused on requested sites which most were foreign and did not have that big impact for me. If I am employed I have no problem do what I am told to do but if I am doing volunteer job without salary I am not going to bend as much.

Also project homepage has been done to be too "modern", and despite suggesting site did not get legacy compatible version. When you enter protoweb homepage you feel like "Before you get change to enjoy old internet we will drag you into modern internet and all it's hideous things (javascript and css overuse, forced ssl) if you wanted get on site with older or hardened browser you can forget it unless you enjoy HTML Cuisinart" I find it very stupid when site focusing on old technology does not open on old computer/browser. I am not demanding that all functions must work on old browser, rather that site should offer basic HTML fallback site for those who don't have compatible setup.

Luckily project got other personnel working too these days so project wont collapse despite one of it's founders leavings. Despite its problems Protoweb is good project and I hope good future for it.

For next year I cant say absolutely anything. What I think is shame that in finland they shut down standard definition TV broadcasts and you will be require HD receiver to watch them. Why this is so bad in my opinion is since lot of tuner cards and Digital receivers will be paperweight, at least for non HD tv you can buy HD digital tuner, but lot of perfectly working equipment will be thrown to trash, it's specially ironic when considering how much noise they make about climate change and environment pollution and at the same time they keep doing actions that will increase unnecessary consumption and waste production. On the other hand there is no lot left on tv these days aside from teletext which i also read on my computer directly off tv signal

Next year page will have articles and information on phones on my collection.
Under this post I got few pictures which will give you taste about what will come next year. Click pictures to open large version of them

Happy upcoming year 2025!
