One of phone sales points was user changable Xpress-on covers, by pressing button on top of phone front cover would detach and could switched for another. Back in day VTG in finland painted custom covers and also Nokia had wide selection of covers. 5130 was model for 1800mhz GSM network. This was in era when dual band phones were still rare. One I got is Oulu Puhelin Oy Citypuhelin which in English means Oulu Phone incorporated Cityphone (to be honest i switched case temporarily to 5110 and made Finnet style operator logo to fake phone being on network since 1800mhz network is gone) Cityphone was Oulun Puhelin Oy name for wireless phones operating at 1800mhz Finnet city network. It was cheaper to call to landline phone than regular landline phone. Downside was that phone was unable get reception outside coverage of City Networks due lack of 1800mhz GSM band. Later Opoy also sold dual band phones to be used on both City and reqular GSM network. I was unable to find information which 900mhz GSM network they connected, but I believe it was Radiolinja because at the time it was part of Finnet. You can find more information about Citynetwork (site in Finnish) from Internet Archive. 5110 is still excellent basic handset. Sound clarity is excellent and because of FBUS connection you can activate Nokia internal network monitor with DAU-9P cable. Phone battery life is best from all phones I reached near two week standby time with aftermarket battery. Only thing which I miss is lack of profiles that was in 6110/6150, but when like said earlier when considering original price point and feature of other phones on same price range it is not dealbreaker for many. If you want old phone which you will just call and sometimes recieve
and call 160 character short messages 5110 is good for it. Please keep
in mind that unless your country has 1800mhz GSM network you should not
get 5130 for other than collecting purposes. In Finland 5110 has no problem
recieve connection on any of major operator networks (Telia, Elisa and
DNA). You can still get batteries in Finland from Parcto, in other countries
other retailers may have some in stock.
