Opening words:

I admit, title was maybe bit clickbait and for starters I will say that this is not arcticle about how Nokiamies.net will shut down, my site is just needle in the ocean and the internet will most likely survive without me. My domain renewal is valid until end of the year, decision will I renew it then depends on which direction world will go by then. In this article I talk about why in my opinion the end of the internet is near and what yesterday thing on this site was about.

What the heck happened at Nokiamies.net during 1.4.2026?

Yesterday 1.4.2026 people who visited my site propably noticed that not single arcticle opened and instead got following message:

This was at site 1.4.2026
WHAT THE FUCK NOKIAMIES?!!
YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!

At the first glance it might have seemed, that I had installed some sort filtering software on my page despite just criticising them at my last post of 2025 and that I had become very thing I swore to destroy. If you read it more carefully, your might you noticed that something was off. Why would program called Silli (Herring) version 1.4 based on LibHerring library version 4.1 be deployed on my site during 1.4.2026 if it were real software. At that point propably all my readers were smart enought to realize it was April fools trick. I am sorry that it was not funny and cut off my site entirely for day, but this thing is very serious problem and that was my small sized protest against this insanity.

Use of Anubis, Cloudflare, Go-Away protections increases constantly because of people despreation block so called "cralwer" programs from accessing the site. Anubis and Go-Away explain their agenda that companies developing machine learning go trough sites and I must admit I got same issue on my site. Those bots visit sometimes too much based on access logs, personally though I few years ago when opened site and noticed this issue made decision that I wont block those in question other ways than redirecting certain directories on my site to "funny" domains. Locations in question are for example Wordpress related which programs search for on purpose to find sites to crack, my site does not even use Wordpress or other content manager. I have decided that I live with, because blocking measure would most likely block honest users who for example do not wish to use Javascript or people who are visually impairied and need use accessibility tool that protection might mistake for bot and real hackers would just laught at it and get past it.

For me if website says that I am robot I will leave site and never return. Lot of resources are already unreadable because of these "allegedly" protective measures. Unfortunately even many open source projects documentation do it and I end up reading them wayback machine for this reason. Out of princible I will not permit javascript unless site absolutely requires it to function, viewing few rows of text does not.

I will ask at this point, how did you felt like when you were unable to open my site for day, what did you do? Were you mad and thinking what is the fucking point in that? Well if you install one of those softwares into your site you do same for me and many other readers every day.

If you are wondering what is my problem with Javascript or Webassembly, reason is that they are biggest security risks on internet browsing. Even though vendors say they are safe, so did say Microsoft back in day from Internet Exploiter InfectiveX and every so often there was security update that was meant to prevent malicious ActiveX script from wiping hard drive.

Granted ActiveX was embedded in operating system level and offered way to run programs locally via browser which led to security issues and WebAssembly is only ran inside browser, but it got much features added which in case of browser sandbox failure can lead in serious security hazard. Treat all JavaScript or WebAssembly code ran in your browser as unauthorised code executed within your processor.

I doubt you would run piece of code I made in your machine without questioning it safety as you can trust only word about it intentions. So why would you run piece of code in your browser where you also must trust into site owner word about it's purpose?

If you want to start limit scripting for security reason, I recommend first disable WebAssembly from browser settings. Next step would be to install Noscript to block javascript by default. Once you learn you it next step could be switch out from Chromium or Gecko based browser into Goanna (based on older Gecko engine) based UXP browser, for instance Palemoon (despite the fact project maintainers are assholes very nice people) or some of the Roytam 1 browser projects and install eMatrix into it that permits also block cookies, css and images per domain and per subdomain.

I think Internet is meant be free resource and I think it is very ridiculous that even open source people who blame Microsoft and other companies for limiting user freedoms do it as well. Hypocrits.. In my site site you can block all elements and site will still work. If you block images you only lose logo at top of page and any images on site, though you can view them by clicking and I added "ALT" tag on all images so you can see description of the image and decide if want waste bandwidht on viewing it. Else site is just tables, hyperlinks and text. Site may not be most beautiful looking one out there, but neither is it's owner. Site will retain similar layout until the end and will be open to all users, no matter if you are running older browser, hardened setup or new browser without hardenings, all are equally welcome.

From this point foward I got policy on links page. If ANY page in link list activates any of the soluctions mentioned above it will immidealtly purged from list. I got zero tolerance on  Anubis/CloudFlare/Go-Away from now on!

Bills that can possibly lead to end of the internet

I still stress that Nokiamies.net is not site about politics and for that reason I have not commented on many politic things and claims, because they would cause unneccessary butthurt to people. However I must now bring up few bills which might result to end of last bits good Internet as web know. These will affect all people despite their political ideologies.

First is one that most likely will affect my life as Finnish. Eurosoviet European union "Chat Control" bill (external link).
At first glance this bill may look very good, since it is pushed in name of "protecting the children", and before anyone starts to scream that I hate children I want say this: Protecting the children from any kinds of exploiters is important and people who do it to them cant justify their actions. Those people destroy lives of innocent child and deserve only the worst for that.

But if you dig deeper into the bill from link above and ingore all words about "protecting the children", you notice that "protecting the chilren" is in reality used for pushing laws that could make it possible for large scale surveillance on all messasing of citizens and at worst make it illegal for invaludals to run their own unfiltered messaging service. My greatest concern is cencorship that it might cause. And even if you completely trusted current leaders in your country and think they would not abuse it remember that leaders do change and next time there might person from <insert party that you hate here>  and they might abuse it for restricting free speech and your opinions.

In that bill Article 10 at page 53 amuses me and confirms me belief that people who made that have no absolutely understanding about technology, rather expect that both client and server software are from same vendor like in Whatsapp, Signal etc. In article in question client and server side software should detect content and in case of client to client encryption client software should detect it.

This would be impossible for example with IRC or XMPP. where there is thousands different client and server softwares and also encryption might be in the client software or example XMPP OMEMO, which encryption keys never go trough the server. Would these be illegal to be used or should server block access from client software that does not comply with law and could any invaludal running small private communication server afford to stay complicant with the law? This bill got nothing to do with protecting the children and it is setting premises on surveillance of people. And if you still believe that is all about protecting children, think about this: what if some hacker hijacks platform in question and collect information about childrens for malicious purposes? So much for protecting children at that point...

Another very concerning bills, which at the time does not affect more than three states in the United States of America is Colorado SB26-051 (external link), California AB-1043 (external link) and Michigan Senate Bill 284 (external internet archive link since could not open it elsewise in Finland). If you are wondering why me as Finnish care about bills made in Melting Pot of Stupidity, it is because bills requires operating systems to set up means to limit underage usage of operating systems. Bill is very concerning, because it requires operating systems to collect information about user in name of verifying age that will be broadcasted trough real time application programming interface. That got nothing to do with protecting children and it actually makes privacy worse for the kids as their age is known by every program and possibly by web sites via browser which can expose them for abuse. Also even if first it could be sufficent for operating system just ask your real age, nothing wont say that later it would not require goverment ID to identify TO USE OPERATING SYSTEM INSTALLED ON PERSONAL DEVICE YOU PAID FOR.

This bill is fucking stupid, although I did not expect more from country where you can driving licence when 16, go at war when 18 but cant buy beer until you are 21. This does not only affect Windows that had these things partially since Windows 8, but also Linux and other operating systems. Ubuntu surprisingly have not statement saying they will implementing but their statement does not either deny that possbility. What I did not expect was that Debian Linux (external link) already has began bringing this feature into their operating system.

Luckily I personally switched away from Debian to Devuan long time ago, mainly since implementing System D as init system. For me problem with System D was that it tried take away all modularity on Linux and be everything, it was mainly Red Hat attempt to control critical parts of OS and many called it the svchost of Linux. Back then people were laughing how stupid those who criticise system D are, but I am pretty sure they stop laughing and shut their mouth when they realise init system in question went ahead and implemented field for user age (external link) and when sane person wanted revert this (external link), pull request was closed instantly and project mainters cencored crtitics as supposedly "heated conversation". That if something proves that SystemD does not give shit for their users. And some people likely think what is the problem with that as age field can be used for good as well it is that IT IS INIT SYSTEM NOT OPERATING SYSTEM. I do not understand why some worship SystemD like it was god. It is bloated messy security nightmare.

For the time being I can only recommend Devuan Linux (Debian based, without SystemD) and Artix Linux (Arch Linux without SystemD) since they are only ones whose developers said they will not go along this. I must admit though that I think that Linux has failed as an operating system if you must choose small niche distribution to have your rights respected. I am not saying that you should not switch to smaller distro that resist it or resistance of small distros was futile, I really respect both Devuan and Artix developers for having balls of steel and not cuck for everything. But this problem been on Linux for long and this is just latest fuckup.

At the end of last year I said I was disappointed that open source project made projects like Anubis, now I say I lost all of my faith in whole open source and Linux community. Most did not even show little bit of resistance for bills that will harm user privacy and freedom, rather began instantly prepare for it.You are all fucking spineless cucks, fuck you all! It will unfortunately affect those are well who do not live in the United States and nothing qurantees that it does not spread elsewhere. And once operating systems implement feature for it all it takes is action from <insert party that you hate here> to implement it. If we do not resist this it will passed everywhere for sure. If bill passes and specially if it spreads elsewhere in the world at that point I will be done with with researching new operating systems and will only use good old technology and even that without internet connectivity.

I still stand behind my opinion that it is parents, not authorities purpose to watch after their children and that overprotecting them is not good. World is unfortunately tough place and kid gotta learn it at some point. I had to go trough all kind of shit despite trying live as well as possible and I can say that would not have survived even this far if I would have lived my childhood in the bubble believing world is just lollipops and unicorns. I wish world was not like this and I try to make world less cruel to live every day by actions, but even if it would change for the better children should still learn the dangers and learn for example safely handle sharp knives or matches/light/other fire making tools instead of preventing child from touching them until they are 18.

Also instead of blocking children from having free access to internet troughout their childhood, in early days internet should only by visited with parents to educate and teach them about dangers of the net. Also children should be taught, either by parents or by some nerdy relative basic maintenance, service and install tasks on computer way my father taught me back in the day. The fact I was permitted use computer freely and learnt what happened beneat the surface made it possible for me gain full independence and skills with computers. I couldn't imagine what my childhood would have been like if every operating system require authentication and limit what I could with it based on age.

As for limiting smartphones, I think you should not even get one for your young kid, rather old regular brick phone (not neccessarily Nokia) is good enough for starters and Internet would only be used via workstation until children is grown up enough (i cant say exact age here, use your intuition). If all parents would do it this way, nobody would even think about propose bills like this, since they would know resistance would large. Every parents who is reading this could think about what I said and try act based on it.

Closing words

I really would not had wanted to write this negative article as first post of the year or do April fools joke that felt like real. I would have wanted make something that was ridicilious even as idea and see how many fell for it, but unfortunately nobody can shut their mouth about certain topics indefinitely I finally had to talk about these. Only way we can make difference is by talking things openly and express our own stance on these things when they affect enough our life. Hushing wont help and emotions cant be allowed control rationality in these cases.

At the moment rationally thinking the future of the Internet looks very bad, last bits of good old internet, which been slowly fading out for last 25 years might disappear for good and most wont even notice or care about it. If world goes into that point I will do what most others will likely do as well and pull the plug for this site, since it wont be internet anymore then. I hope people would make the right choices and not support legistlations blindly, but history has proved that people do not do their research and because of it future looks dark...
